Columbus East’s decision to honor Bob Gaddis by naming its stadium after him isn’t merely a testament to his coaching accolades—it’s a celebration of his impact on generations of Olympians, on Columbus East, and high school football across Indiana. With a career that spanned over four decades, Gaddis has cemented his legacy as a remarkable coach, mentor, and leader.
Bob Gaddis dedicated 42 years to coaching football and education, accumulating an impressive 330- 143 overall record, including 212 wins at Columbus East alone. His name ranks sixth among the all-time winningest coaches in Indiana high school football, a record that reflects his unwavering commitment to excellence. Under his guidance, the Olympians achieved monumental success, clinching two state championships, a state runner-up title, and advancing to Indiana’s 6A classification—the state’s largest—due to the program’s remarkable track record under his leadership.
His influence at Columbus East stretched beyond the field. From 2006 to 2015, Gaddis served as the school’s athletic director, ensuring a thriving athletics program. His dedication to the football community extended into statewide impact through his roles within the Indiana Football Coaches Association (IFCA). Rising through various positions, Gaddis now serves as the IFCA’s executive director, championing initiatives to elevate high school football. His contributions earned him a place in multiple Halls of Fame, including the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 2014 and the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2022.
Columbus East flourished under Gaddis’ direction, as he led them to 17 consecutive Hoosier Hills Conference titles and a staggering list of postseason
victories: 11 sectional, 10 regional, and two semi-state championships. His name is synonymous with consistent success and resilient leadership.
Gaddis Stadium at Columbus East will stand as a lasting tribute to a man who spent his life in the service of student-athletes, his colleagues, and the game itself. Columbus East’s proud tradition and strong foundation in athletics will forever bear his mark—a legacy woven from hard-fought victories, enduring mentorship, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
